.us or .net ?!?

I want to get a domain name for my business . Sadly company name .com is owned by a large international english company with a related name but they dont use it.

Should I contact them directly hoping they will give it to me . If I cannot get the name, what is my best option - .us or .net?

Of course having the .com version of the site is best, that being said, .net is the better choice. .us is not widely known while .net is starting to become fairly common. Perhaps there is a slight variation of your companies name plus something else will make sense and is still available.

If your target customers are from US, then .us will be very good. Other wise go for .net

I think for business purpose you must go for .net as its far better..
