I was wondering how a website is determined to be under the law of any particular country. Say for example a website's domain name is registered in France, the servers are in India, and its operated/managed from the United States. If the website ever got into legal trouble which laws of what countries would it be subject to?

I'd have thought it reasonable to presume that the rigistrant's country of origin is the country whose jurisdiction would apply, but that doesn't seem to be the case. According to 2 US-cases, .com domains are 'geographically' based in Virginia, US. For more details, read: http://www.theregister.co.uk/2002/09/04/ill_see_your_domain_name/
If this is indeed the case, the registrar's country of origin would seem to be the country whose laws would apply, i.e. for .uk domains - UK, and so on.
Hope that helps...
