As a newcomer to SEO stuff, here are the basics I've known so far.

Submit to directories
Fresh/Original Content
Link Exchange
Backlinks

Any more ideas? Is there a site which is a kind of tips to newbies so we can use it as a guide?

hahaha Coz I don't usually use them as I'm not good at it yet. Still need to learn more. But these few days, I always see to it that I have included them.

Keywords and meta tags, also use small but little things to help add weight to your keywords. Like maybe using <h1> tags on your major keywords, do <h2> tags on your sub heaings which are your 2nd keywords that you are trying to target and also use <b> to give more weight into your keywords!

All these little things you could do and your site will be ranking in #1 in no time!

SEO is a vast field and it isn't limited to just backlinks, directory submissions etc.

However main points could be the following..

Fresh and Unique content
Good Domain Name
Getting Relevant Backlinks
Proper Keywords
No Spamming
