I recently just bought a .net site similar to a .com site name. T
he company wasn't trademarked but is it still illegal to buy it?
How much trouble am I in and what can I do?
-Anyone else ever been in this situation before?

You might want to call Handle On The Law on the Jon And ken show they will be able to help you know the correct answer to this as I think though as long as the site is not trademarked you cannot get in trouble.

If it isn't trademarked than they would have trouble getting the name from you.... This is why companies shoudl reigster the other main extensions like .net and .org --- It's not easy to stop someone from using another domain similar to yours... If it is trademarked, then they have a much stronger case against your use of the domain....
If it is not trademarked then you have no problems with this name. You can even offer the .com site to sell your .net domain but this is called cybersquatting and is recommended by most domainers.

How did this end up working with you? Was this information for your own personal experince or was it just something you were interested in. Let me know how this ended up working with you or if you ever got in any trouble due to the fact you bought a trademarked area. I think even if you did the person holding the trademark would have to pay you for what you have since you did own it though.
