SEO Domain name question

Hello folks,

I was wondering if the domain extension matters for SEO. For example will mydomainname.nl rank higher then mydomainname.com in google.nl (meaning, localised search)? Or doesn't it matter.

If you searched the forum, you would find this answer somewhere as I remember this question was posted not too long ago... I think the domain extention does matter, especially in country specific search engines. with country specific extentions...

.com's seem to perform the best in the U.S.
