I know this is kind of late news but, its interesting:

The company paid $300,000 for the domain name. The RealEstate.NET site will be launched late February and is currently accepting pre-registrations. That's an awesome figure. It's hard to see that it's worth it (and I own real estate relate domains) but I guess it all comes down to perception...

I can only hope that one day, I will sell a domain for that much money :)

Doesn't everyone hope for that. HeHe, I just developed a program that will search expired domains and list their page rank. I am going to be rich if it works!!!! :)

you have to be able to sniff out the stability of those inbound links though. Are they likely to disappear or will they hang around...

For me it's hard to justify a purchase like that when you do not have the .com version...... I know .net is a superior extension, but I would always feel second best without the .com domain...

No matter how many popular and successful the site becomes, they still will need to buy the .com domain for they will be loosing traffic to realestate.com as people will make that mistake.

www.botw.org just recently bought www.bestoftheweb.com and they still need to buy www.botw.com
www.topix.net just recently bought www.topix.com

whoa! thats really a huge amount of money! im hoping to get maybe atleast of their earnings someday. i have that same concept website now

Not really I have seen some that have went for more. But for me the most money I made selling a domain so far is $500, the deal just went through yesterday.
