Hi I am sort of new to the game, and really wanted to know whether there is any particular method in thinking up domain names so you can buy and re-sell them or is it really just like a crap shoot and all chance.

I search for good domains with good pageranks and good topic. It can be hard sometimes to pick a good domain and even picking a topic for development. Sometimes I set random sites up with any domain haha.

Interesting way of deciding what domain name to go with. I also like to check the expired website lists. Because they usually have the good stuff , because some people forget to renew there website and you can come in and SWOOP it up. I think I got a really good one today WWW.HTMLMYSPACE.COM. Has two keywords that I think work wonderfully not only does it have HTML but it also has MYSPACE.
I think this site would be perfect for a Myspace script site and am probably gonna put a Myspace script on it.

Just think up a random name its the best way or ask someone and they might have a good idea

Yea I usually ask my brother me and him work on domains together. He helps me find some good ones as well as I do the same for him. We have found a domain name and bought it for 8$ (www.cook2u.com), then turned around and sold it for 500$ on eBay that really got us started into the domain names as that was the first domain name we actually tried to sell. We had been looking at only the LeapFish appraisal and it came up 27.000 so we decided to flip it and it worked out wonderfully.

Oh, so you guys have already profited from selling domains :)
Thats really good to hear. Well, There are softwares which help generate good domain names.. something you can play with when you go blank, maybe you get a good domain name out of it? :D

Kulwinder.

If you want a domain to sell, then think short. I meant that as in you should go for short but pronounceable and keyword-rich domains. :) That's why cook2u.com sold for $500, because it was short, pronounceable and a good keyword domain for a cooking related site.

This guy is totally right. Short = Cash. I really wish there were still some 3 letter dot com's still out there. Any 3 letter .com goes for 10k+ for any random letters. And if you were lucky enough to find an expired doc.com or sex.com then the price would be out of this world. Short and good keywords are always a thing to look for when finding domain names. Other things you wanna check for are backlinks and PR ranking too.
