I don't think you will find any place to register free domains. If by chance, you find some place, there might be some catch (like high renewal fee next year) etc.

You just cant get a premium tld domain for free . You can get a .co.nr or .tk (Internet country code top-level domain ) for free provided you must put their ads on the homepage as described in the TOS ..

Some web host companies give them free if you buy hosting from them.

hmm, if you are very serious on internet and want to make most of it. then buy one.
But you can get a domain free for buying premium hosting . so look for it.
